Cheong Gye Cheon translates to ‘clear stream creek’. The Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project (CRP) completed in 2005 aimed to restore the meaning of the name within the heart of Seoul. Through managing the removal of concrete, previously employed to cover up the stagnant river water and facilitate the rapid increase in population, the project set out to act as an ecological and sustainable precedent of urban gentrification and river management. This assignment explores the transition from stagnant river to ecological oasis, assessing environmental data and the resulting socio-political implications to critique the project as 'sustainable'.
